AAET is committed to of Electrodiagnostic Technologists. Benefits include a quarterly newsletter with updates on HCFA guidelines, information on training courses, job opportunities and educational opportunities.

Membership Requirements:

Applicants for ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP or ACTIVE MEMBERSHIP BY EXAMINATION shall have had training under the direction of an active member of the AAEM or have been actively employed in the capacity of an Electrodiagnostic Technologist performing non-invasive nerve conduction studies and/or electrodiagnostic procedures prior to application for membership. Applicants must sign the pledge agreeing to comply with the AAET's Code of Ethics.
Applicant will be notified of approval. Membership Dues are $75.00 per year, on an individual basis and $375.00 for group of 10 payable to the AAET.

The Code of Ethics of the American Association of Electrodiagnostic Technologists

Electrodiagnostic technologists will conduct themselves beyond reproach and in such a manner as to merit the respect of the Association and the public.

Electrodiagnostic technologists should be accurate in all that they do. Their primary concern should be the patient's care and comfort. They should be willing to assist their respective supervisors in any way that is deemed appropriate in their organizations.

Electrodiagnostic technologists should treat the patient with all due respect and courtesy regardless of the origin or nature of the presenting disorder, the patient's sex, race or creed.

The patient has a right to privacy and should be treated accordingly. The technologist should yield to a patient's refusal to undergo the studies when reasonable persuasion has failed.

Electrodiagnostic technologists should always maintain confidentiality of information. All data taken should be protected from unauthorized inspection. They should not at any time give a written clinical interpretation of the data derived from the procedure.

Electrodiagnostic technologists who are members of this Association should not perform any independent needle EMG examination.

Electrodiagnostic technologists who have taken the national examination should not reveal verbatim, whether in oral or written form, any questions which appear in the examination, nor the answers to these, without the express authorization of the Examination Committee. This does not include the use of those questions designed to be used as samples.

Electrodiagnostic technologists should be able and willing to share their knowledge with other technologists, either in training or in other institutions. They should always be willing to assist in any way possible.

Electrodiagnostic technologists who are members of this Association and do not adhere to this Code of Ethics shall be subject to disciplinary guidelines outlined in the Constitution and Bylaws.
